For the 10 seconds the gate is open

They're family. Never lose track of them.

A delivery driver leaves the gate open. Fireworks go off. A storm rolls in and they bolt. Every pet owner knows that sinking feeling.

With a GPS tracker, you open your phone and see exactly where they are. Then you go get them.

Fi Series 3+

If we could put one tracker on every dog we know, it would be this one. A tracker only helps if it's charged when the gate swings open, and the Fi goes weeks between charges instead of hours.

  • Fi says up to 2 weeks between charges for very active dogs and up to 3 months for calm ones
  • Escape alerts, plus a Lost Dog Mode that updates the map every few seconds
  • Built into a tough, waterproof collar in sizes XS to XL

The GPS pet trackers worth buying, side by side

All four pair GPS with a cellular plan, so you can see your pet from anywhere with a signal. The real differences are battery, cost and whether you need a fence.

Four checks every tracker gets

We test on our own dogs and post results as they finish. Until then, each review says plainly what's based on the brand's specs.

Ping speed

How long until the map shows a fresh location after you ask for one.

Real battery life

Days of normal use, not the number on the box.

Escape alert time

How long after your dog leaves the yard the alert reaches your phone.

Weak-signal areas

Back roads and the edges of town where cell service gets spotty.

Lost pet right now?

Do these five things first

Take a breath. In an ASPCA survey, half of the owners who got their lost dog back found it by searching the neighborhood. The first hour counts.

Open the full checklist
  1. Open the tracker app and turn on live or lost mode.
  2. Search close first. Start where they were last seen and widen out.
  3. Don't chase. Crouch, turn sideways and speak softly.
  4. Call shelters and animal control, and report the microchip as lost.
  5. Post a recent photo on Petco Love Lost, Nextdoor and local groups.
